The Corpak MedSystems NAVIGATØR BioNavigation System confirms PICC/CVC tip location during bedside placement The system consists of the NAVIGATØR, a hand-held, battery-powered locating instrument, and a sterile, single patient use, stylet (MAPCath).
The NAVIGATØR instrument emits electromagnetic fields, which are detected by the sensor in the tip of the MAPCath Sensor Stylet.
A compass light display on the NAVIGATØR instrument indicates the precise location and direction of the tip of the PICC/CV catheter.
The MAPCath Sensor Stylet easily replaces the stylet in a conventional catheter, and comes with a Tuohy-Borst Adapter with irrigation port which easily attaches with a variety of PICC/CVC catheters.Benefits
Convenient
- The NAVIGATØR instrument is portable and powered by a 9-volt alkaline battery.
- Eliminates the need for patient transport to interventional radiology for multiple x-rays or fluoroscopy.
- PICC placed at patient’s bedside vs. interventional radiology.
Accurate
- Audible and visual signals indicate location of tip position with an accuracy of ± 1 cm.
- In addition, the NAVIGATØR displays the direction in which the tip is pointing, giving increased confidence that the catheter is properly placed.
- Reduces risks associated with "blind" catheter placement by following the position of the catheter tip. Avoids costly follow-up procedures to reposition catheters.
Cost-Effective
- Because it eliminates the need for on-line fluoroscopy, the NAVIGATØR reduces the cost of placement procedures, in and out of the O.R.
- Raises efficiency of PICC placement due to fewer malpositions.
- Reduces costs associated with multiple x-rays and repositioning procedures (additional PICCs, insertion kits and nursing time).
- Reduces time to treatment for patient.
- Placement of catheters outside the O.R. significantly reduces costs, as shown in the following study (Goldfarb PM, Coldwell D, Chronic Venous Access: Bedside Placement Technique and Complications. Cancer Practice 1994;2(4):279-283.).
Safe
- Reduces patient exposure to multiple x-rays and fluoroscopy.
- Eliminates malpositioned PICCs/CVCs.
Versatile
- Designed for use with all types of PICCs.
- Accommodates all placement techniques.
